“An ambassador from any country is always conscious of

the fact that he has a tremendous responsibility

because he is the representative

by whom his country is going to be judged..."

-Martyn Lloyd-Jones

Zone 6 in the heart of Guatemala City is home to several high schools, including one named Liceo Fronesis. Several evangelical believers attend this private school. Energy was high and smiles glistened among the youth as basketball and volleyball aided the bond growing between Mississippi and Guatemalan high schoolers. English and Spanish swirled throughout conversations like chocolate syrup on melted vanilla ice cream.

Hartfield with Liceo Fronesis

"So we are Christ’s ambassadors;

God is making his appeal through us.

We speak for Christ when we plead,

“Come back to God!”

-II Corinthians 5:20 (NLT)

Christ being glorified was at the center of everyone coming together in this time. A basketball game, playing knockout, bumping the volleyball, singing and laughing dominated the interactions of Gringos and "Chapines" (people from Guatemala).

For God made Christ, who never sinned,

to be the offering for our sin,

so that we could be made right with God through Christ."

-II Corinthians 5:21 (NLT)

This was day 2 on an eight day short-term mission trip for the Hartfield high schoolers. As our Mississippi crew headed to lunch I thought,

"What a sweet interaction there was between our two countries!"

"...And to us is given the privilege and responsibility of being the representatives of the Son of God in this world.

We stand for him, people judge him by what they see in us, and they are perfectly entitled to do so because we are the ones through whom and in whom He is glorified.

Do we, I wonder, always realize this?”

-Martyn Lloyd-Jones
