High on the cliffs above Lake Atitlan, Solola Pedro gave a Sunday sermon and later shared his personal story with us. He seems more like a cool uncle to the kids, than a board member. It shows he has adopted God's heart as it says in the Psalms.
"A father to the fatherless,
a defender of widows, is
God in his holy dwelling."
Psalm 68:5
Three things that might surprise you about this orphanage in Guatemala.
1.) Once a resort for the upper-class, Eagle's Nest now homes more than 40 kids!
2.) This orphanage is more affectionately referred to as a children's home. It feels like it too!
3.) In 1978 a missionary couple adopted one child and sparked the whole movement.
Pedro had come to Guatemala to help with a sports camp in 2009, now he's the boss of
41 children at the home,
205 kids at the School (Pre-K to 6th),
70 youth at Manna Feeding Center, an
80+ member church, plus
45+ missions groups a year &
40+ Guatemalan facility rentals for activities.
So, how did a San Bernadino body shop worker go from putting hydraulics on low-riders to a successful Solola orphanage director?
