SEPAL Guatemala goes "on-rappel" with Red Cross!

Guatemala's national tree is the Ceiba. Some folks in Mayan religions have believed that these gargantuan sentinels are some kind of link to the afterlife. The word Guatemala means land of many trees. Maybe it was just a coincidence that the solid stature of a Guatemalan tree ensured the preservation of our lives while rappelling.

Trees are great rappelling anchors. Fortunate for us, there was an enormous one on the hillside to descend from.

SEPAL's first rappelling course, S.A.Rappelling101 served the Red Cross near Coban. The class took place near the small town of Campur, Guatemala.

We were able to work with local missionary and R.C. training coordinator, Raul H. Young men and women in the class seemed ecstatic to train with high angle rescue gear. We accomplished so much in 2 days, I wonder what we could do in a week?

Fun Fact - La Ceiba de Palín Escuintla has been standing for over 400 years and is the most important Ceiba in Guatemala.
